Stopadol cold & Flu is a combination oral capsule containing Paracetamol (500 mg), Guaifenesin (100 mg), and Phenylephrine hydrochloride (6.1 mg). It is used for the symptomatic relief of common cold and upper respiratory tract infections, including fever, pain, nasal congestion, and productive cough.

Composition (per capsule):

  • Paracetamol – 500 mg
  • Guaifenesin – 100 mg
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride – 6.1 mg

Pharmacological Classification

A combination respiratory preparation with:

  • Analgesic and antipyretic
  • Expectorant
  • Nasal decongestant

Mechanism of Action

  • Paracetamol: Acts centrally to reduce fever and mild-to-moderate pain
  • Guaifenesin: Increases respiratory tract fluid → loosens mucus and facilitates productive cough
  • Phenylephrine: α1-adrenergic agonist → vasoconstriction in nasal mucosa → relieves congestion

Therapeutic Indications

Indicated for symptomatic relief of:

  • Fever and headache
  • Chest congestion
  • Productive (wet) cough
  • Nasal congestion associated with common cold and upper respiratory infections

Adverse Effects

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea)
  • Dizziness
  • Increased blood pressure or palpitations
  • Nervousness or restlessness
  • Rare allergic reactions

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with:

  • Hypertension or cardiovascular disease
  • Liver impairment
  • Hyperthyroidism or diabetes

Avoid:

  • Concurrent use with other paracetamol-containing products
  • Use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
