Cyanaro Plus is a combined antibiotic–corticosteroid formulation used to treat bacterial eye infections associated with inflammation.

Composition

Each 1 mL contains:

  • Azithromycin dihydrate equivalent to 10 mg azithromycin (1%)
  • Dexamethasone sodium phosphate equivalent to 1 mg dexamethasone
  • Benzalkonium chloride (preservative)

Pharmacological Classification

  • Azithromycin: Macrolide antibiotic
  • Dexamethasone: Corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory)

Mechanism of Action

►Azithromycin

  • Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit
  • Prevents bacterial growth (bacteriostatic effect)

►Dexamethasone

  • Suppresses inflammatory response by:
    • Reducing cytokine release
    • Decreasing capillary permeability
    • Inhibiting immune-mediated tissue damage

Indications

This combination is used for:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis with inflammation
  • Blepharitis / blepharoconjunctivitis
  • Post-operative ocular inflammation with risk of infection

Azithromycin eye drops alone are indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis and similar infections

Dosage Form & Strength

  • Ophthalmic sterile solution
  • Strength: Azithromycin 1% + Dexamethasone 0.1%

  • Minimal systemic absorption with topical use
  • Sustained ocular surface contact improves efficacy
