MUCO S.R. 75 MG ( AMBROXOL ) MUCOLYTIC & FACILITATES EXPECTORATION 20 CAPSULES CONTAINING SUSTAINED RELEASE PELLETS

MUCO® Capsules – Ambroxol 75 mg (Sustained-Release) – Medical Description

Dosage form: Sustained-release (extended-release/retard) oral capsules

Active ingredient:

  • Ambroxol hydrochloride: 75 mg per capsule

Pharmacologic class: Mucolytic and expectorant agent.

Description:
MUCO capsules contain Ambroxol hydrochloride, a mucolytic medication used in respiratory disorders associated with excessive or thick mucus production. The sustained-release 75 mg formulation gradually releases the medication over approximately 24 hours, allowing prolonged activity and often once-daily administration. Ambroxol improves mucus clearance and helps make secretions easier to cough out.

Therapeutic uses:

  • Productive cough associated with thick mucus
  • Acute bronchitis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Respiratory disorders with difficult-to-expectorate secretions
  • Conditions involving abnormal mucus production and impaired mucus transport

Mechanism of action:

  • Mucolytic effect: Reduces mucus viscosity and helps break down thick bronchial secretions.
  • Secretomotor activity: Enhances ciliary movement within the respiratory tract to improve mucus transport.
  • Surfactant stimulation: Increases surfactant production and decreases mucus adherence within the airways.

Possible adverse effects:
Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Altered taste sensation
  • Headache
  • Mild gastrointestinal irritation
  • Skin rash or hypersensitivity reactions

Important precautions and warnings:

  • Do not use in patients with known allergy to Ambroxol or any formulation component.
  • Rare severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), have been reported; discontinue use and seek urgent medical evaluation if rash, blistering, or mouth lesions occur.
  • Use cautiously in patients with significant liver or kidney impairment.
  • Sustained-release capsules should generally be swallowed whole and should not be crushed or chewed because this may alter the controlled drug release profile.
