CONCOR AMLO 5 / 5 MG (  BISOPROLOL FUMARATE / AMLODIPINE ) 30 ORAL TABLETS

Medical Description – Concor AMLO 5/5 mg Tablets

Generic name: Bisoprolol fumarate 5 mg + Amlodipine (as amlodipine besylate) 5 mg
Pharmacotherapeutic class: Fixed-dose antihypertensive combination; beta-1 selective adrenergic receptor blocker and calcium channel blocker.

Description:
Concor AMLO 5/5 mg is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing bisoprolol fumarate 5 mg and amlodipine 5 mg. It is indicated for the management of hypertension in adult patients whose blood pressure is adequately controlled with the same doses of bisoprolol and amlodipine administered as separate products. The combination is intended as substitution therapy to improve treatment convenience and adherence.

Mechanism of action:

  • Bisoprolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, resulting in reduced blood pressure and decreased cardiac workload.
  • Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral arterial vasodilation and reduction of systemic vascular resistance.

The combined actions provide complementary antihypertensive effects by targeting different physiological pathways involved in blood pressure regulation.

Indications:

  • Essential hypertension in patients stabilized on equivalent doses of bisoprolol and amlodipine administered concurrently.

Dosage and administration:

  • One tablet orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
  • Dosage adjustment should be based on individual patient response and physician assessment.

Common adverse reactions:

  • Bradycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Peripheral edema (particularly ankle swelling)
  • Flushing
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, abdominal discomfort)

Contraindications:

  • Severe bradycardia
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Acute or decompensated heart failure
  • Severe hypotension
  • Severe bronchospastic disease (for bisoprolol-sensitive patients)
  • Hypersensitivity to bisoprolol, amlodipine, dihydropyridines, or formulation components

Precautions:
Patients should be monitored for excessive reduction in blood pressure, slow heart rate, worsening heart failure symptoms, and signs of peripheral edema. Abrupt discontinuation of beta-blocker therapy should generally be avoided.
