CAKMARE PLUS: Nasal Spray with Sea Salt, Panthenol, Allantoin, and Benzalkonium Chloride

Pharmaceutical Form: Nasal spray solution

Composition:

• Sea Salt (2.2%)
• Panthenol (Provitamin B5)
• Allantoin
• Benzalkonium Chloride (preservative/antiseptic)
• Purified Water (Aqua)

Pharmacological Properties

• Sea Salt (2.2%)
  Provides isotonic to mildly hypertonic saline effect. Helps cleanse the nasal mucosa, reduce edema, moisturize nasal passages, and improve mucociliary clearance. Useful in removing dust, allergens, and pathogens.

• Panthenol
  Has moisturizing, soothing, and regenerative properties. Enhances mucosal healing, reduces irritation, and supports tissue repair.

• Allantoin
  Known for its keratolytic, soothing, and healing actions. Promotes cell regeneration, reduces dryness, and alleviates discomfort in the nasal mucosa.

• Benzalkonium Chloride
  Acts as a preservative and antiseptic agent. Helps prevent microbial contamination of the solution.

• Aqua (Purified Water)
  Serves as the solvent and carrier for the active components.

Indications

This nasal spray is used for:

• Daily nasal hygiene and cleansing.
• Relief of nasal congestion and dryness.
• Moisturizing the nasal mucosa in cases of irritation, dry air, or exposure to dust and allergens.
• Adjunctive therapy in rhinitis, sinusitis, and upper respiratory tract infections.
• Post-operative nasal care after ENT procedures.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults and children (≥2 years): 1–2 sprays into each nostril, 2–3 times daily or as directed by a physician.
• Shake before use. Gently insert the nozzle and spray while breathing in lightly.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
• Children under 2 years (unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor).

Warnings and Precautions

• Avoid direct contact of the applicator tip with nasal mucosa to prevent contamination.
• Prolonged excessive use may cause nasal irritation (due to benzalkonium chloride).
• Use with caution in patients with known sensitivity to preservatives.

Adverse Reactions

Generally well tolerated. Possible side effects:

• Local irritation (burning, stinging, dryness).
• Rare allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).

Drug Interactions

• No significant systemic interactions expected.
• Prolonged use of benzalkonium chloride–containing nasal sprays may affect ciliary function; avoid long-term unsupervised use.

• Store at room temperature (15–25 °C).
• Keep away from direct sunlight.
• Keep out of reach of children.
