CHARTOREG 40 MG ( TELMISARTAN ) TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION 28 TABLETS

CHARTOREG 40 MG

Telmisartan 40 mg — 28 Tablets
Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) | Antihypertensive

Medical Description

CHARTOREG 40 mg contains telmisartan 40 mg, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the AT₁ receptors for angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. Blocking this effect helps blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

Effective treatment of hypertension helps reduce the long-term risk of cardiovascular complications, including stroke and myocardial infarction, associated with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Indication

CHARTOREG 40 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults. Telmisartan may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medicines when additional blood-pressure control is required.

How It Works

Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II AT₁ receptors, preventing angiotensin II from causing vasoconstriction. This promotes vascular relaxation and reduces blood pressure.

Dosage & Administration

  • The usual starting dose for hypertension is 40 mg once daily.
  • Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be adjusted within the recommended range of 40–80 mg once daily.
  • CHARTOREG 40 mg should be taken exactly as prescribed by the physician.
  • It can be taken with or without food, preferably at approximately the same time each day.
  • Most of the antihypertensive effect becomes apparent within approximately 2 weeks, with maximum blood-pressure reduction generally reached after about 4 weeks.

Important Precautions

Tell your physician if you have kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, or conditions associated with increased potassium levels. Telmisartan may cause hypotension and may affect kidney function or serum potassium levels in susceptible patients.

Patients should inform their physician before using potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, or potassium-sparing medicines, as these may increase potassium levels.

Concurrent use of telmisartan with an ACE inhibitor is generally not recommended because dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin system can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Pregnancy Warning

Telmisartan should not be used during pregnancy. Drugs acting on the renin-angiotensin system can cause serious fetal injury or death. If pregnancy is detected while taking telmisartan, contact a healthcare professional immediately.

Possible Side Effects

Possible adverse effects may include dizziness, hypotension, diarrhea, and back pain. Telmisartan may also cause increased blood potassium or changes in kidney function, particularly in patients with relevant risk factors.

Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet.

Lifestyle Measures

Blood-pressure medication should be combined, when appropriate, with healthy lifestyle measures such as reducing dietary salt, maintaining a healthy body weight, regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol intake.

Patient Disclaimer

This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not replace the advice of a qualified physician or pharmacist. CHARTOREG 40 mg should be used only as prescribed. Do not start, stop, or change the dose without consulting your healthcare professional. Patients with kidney or liver disease, abnormal potassium levels, dehydration, low blood pressure, pregnancy, or possible pregnancy should seek medical advice before use. Regular blood-pressure monitoring and, when clinically indicated, monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes may be required.
