CHARTOREG 80 MG ( TELMISARTAN ) TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION 28 TABLETS

CHARTOREG 80 MG

Telmisartan 80 mg — 28 Tablets
Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) | Antihypertensive

Medical Description

CHARTOREG 80 mg contains telmisartan 80 mg, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Telmisartan works by selectively blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to constrict. By blocking its action, telmisartan promotes relaxation and widening of blood vessels, helping to lower blood pressure and reduce the workload on the cardiovascular system.

Effective blood-pressure control helps reduce the long-term risk of cardiovascular complications associated with uncontrolled hypertension, including stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney disease.

Indication

CHARTOREG 80 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults, either as monotherapy or, when appropriate, in combination with other antihypertensive medicines.

How It Works

Telmisartan blocks angiotensin II AT₁ receptors, preventing angiotensin II from producing vasoconstriction and other blood-pressure-raising effects. This results in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.

Dosage & Administration

  • The usual starting dose of telmisartan for hypertension is 40 mg once daily.
  • Depending on the patient's blood-pressure response, the dose may be adjusted to 40–80 mg once daily.
  • CHARTOREG 80 mg should therefore be taken at the dose prescribed by the treating physician.
  • It may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
  • The antihypertensive effect is generally apparent within about 2 weeks, with maximal reduction usually achieved within approximately 4 weeks.

Important Precautions

Patients should inform their physician if they have kidney or liver problems, dehydration, low blood pressure, heart failure, or conditions that may increase potassium levels. Telmisartan can cause hypotension, hyperkalemia, and changes in kidney function in susceptible patients, so appropriate clinical monitoring may be required.

Patients taking potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, or potassium-sparing diuretics should consult their physician before using them with telmisartan.

Pregnancy: Telmisartan should not be used during pregnancy because medicines acting on the renin-angiotensin system can cause serious fetal injury or death. If pregnancy occurs, telmisartan should be discontinued and medical advice sought promptly.

Possible Side Effects

Possible adverse effects include dizziness, hypotension, diarrhea, and back pain. Some patients may experience increased potassium levels or changes in kidney function, particularly when risk factors are present.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed tablet.

Lifestyle & Blood Pressure Control

Medication is an important part of hypertension management when prescribed, but healthy lifestyle measures also contribute to blood-pressure control. These include reducing salt intake, maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco, and limiting alcohol consumption.

Patient Disclaimer

This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not replace the advice of a qualified physician or pharmacist. CHARTOREG 80 mg should be used only as prescribed. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of telmisartan without consulting your healthcare professional. Patients with kidney or liver disease, abnormal potassium levels, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, or those taking other medicines should seek professional medical advice before use. Regular blood-pressure monitoring and, when clinically indicated, kidney function and electrolyte monitoring may be required.
