CHARTOREG CO 10 / 40 MG ( AMLODIPINE / TELMISARTAN ) 28 BILAYER TABLETS

CHARTOREG CO 10/40 MG

Amlodipine 10 mg + Telmisartan 40 mg — 28 Bilayer Tablets
Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) + Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) | Antihypertensive

Medical Description

CHARTOREG CO 10/40 mg contains a fixed-dose combination of amlodipine 10 mg and telmisartan 40 mg. This combination uses two complementary mechanisms to reduce elevated blood pressure.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker (CCB) that inhibits calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, resulting in arterial relaxation and vasodilation. This reduces peripheral vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure.

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the AT₁ receptor, preventing the vasoconstricting effects of angiotensin II and promoting vascular relaxation.

Fixed-dose combinations of an ARB with a calcium-channel blocker are recognized in hypertension treatment guidelines as an option for patients requiring more than one antihypertensive agent. WHO specifically includes ARB–CCB single-pill combinations among recommended pharmacological treatment strategies for hypertension.

Indication

CHARTOREG CO 10/40 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.

The telmisartan/amlodipine combination can be used when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either component alone or when combination therapy is clinically appropriate. The approved combination products include 40 mg telmisartan/10 mg amlodipine as one of the available strengths.

Controlling hypertension helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications associated with persistently elevated blood pressure, including stroke and myocardial infarction.

How It Works

Amlodipine 10 mg

  • Blocks L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle.
  • Produces arterial vasodilation.
  • Reduces peripheral vascular resistance.
  • Helps lower systemic blood pressure.

Telmisartan 40 mg

  • Selectively blocks angiotensin II at AT₁ receptors.
  • Reduces angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction.
  • Promotes relaxation of blood vessels.
  • Helps lower blood pressure.

By acting through different pathways, the two medicines provide complementary antihypertensive effects.

Dosage & Administration

  • CHARTOREG CO 10/40 mg should be taken exactly as prescribed by the treating physician.
  • Telmisartan/amlodipine combinations are generally administered once daily.
  • The referenced prescribing information allows dosage adjustment according to blood-pressure response, with a maximum combination dose of telmisartan 80 mg/amlodipine 10 mg once daily.
  • The medicine may be taken with or without food.
  • Take the tablet at approximately the same time each day.
  • Do not increase, decrease, or discontinue treatment without medical advice.

WHO guidance supports the use of ARB–CCB combinations, including single-pill combinations, when combination therapy is appropriate.

Important Precautions

Tell your physician if you have:

  • Kidney disease or impaired kidney function
  • Liver disease
  • Low blood pressure or dehydration
  • A history of angioedema or serious allergic reaction
  • Significant cardiovascular disease
  • Abnormal potassium levels

Telmisartan may increase serum potassium and may affect kidney function in susceptible patients. Blood pressure, kidney function and electrolytes may need to be monitored according to the patient's clinical condition.

Patients should consult their healthcare professional before using potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes.

Telmisartan should not be combined with aliskiren in patients with diabetes because of increased risk of adverse effects associated with dual renin-angiotensin system blockade.

Possible Side Effects

Possible adverse effects may include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Peripheral edema (swelling of the ankles or feet)
  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Palpitations
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in kidney function
  • Increased blood potassium levels

Peripheral edema is a recognized adverse effect of amlodipine and can be dose-related.

Seek urgent medical attention if severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, fainting, or other symptoms of a serious allergic reaction occur.

Pregnancy Warning

CHARTOREG CO should not be used during pregnancy.

Telmisartan acts directly on the renin-angiotensin system and can cause serious fetal injury or death. If pregnancy is detected during treatment, telmisartan should be discontinued as soon as possible and an appropriate alternative treatment should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take two tablets at the same time to compensate for a missed dose.

Lifestyle Measures

Along with prescribed antihypertensive treatment, appropriate lifestyle measures may support blood-pressure control, including:

  • Reducing dietary salt/sodium intake
  • Maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Regular physical activity
  • Following a balanced diet
  • Avoiding tobacco
  • Limiting alcohol consumption

WHO recommends lifestyle modification alongside appropriate pharmacological treatment for hypertension.

Storage

Keep CHARTOREG CO in its original packaging, protected from moisture and light, and follow the storage conditions stated on the product packaging. Telmisartan/amlodipine tablets should be protected from moisture and should generally remain in their blister packaging until use.

Patient Disclaimer

This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not replace the advice of a qualified physician or pharmacist. CHARTOREG CO 10/40 mg should be used only as prescribed. Do not start, stop, or change the dose without consulting your healthcare professional. Patients with kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, dehydration, abnormal potassium levels, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, or those taking other medicines that affect blood pressure, potassium levels, or kidney function should consult their healthcare professional before use. Regular blood-pressure monitoring and, when clinically indicated, monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes may be required.
