CHARTOREG CO 10 / 80 MG ( AMLODIPINE / TELMISARTAN ) 28 BILAYER TABLETS

CHARTOREG CO 10/80 MG

Amlodipine 10 mg + Telmisartan 80 mg — 28 Bilayer Tablets
Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) + Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) | Antihypertensive

Medical Description

CHARTOREG CO 10/80 mg contains a fixed-dose combination of amlodipine 10 mg and telmisartan 80 mg, two antihypertensive medicines that lower blood pressure through complementary mechanisms.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker. It inhibits calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, producing arterial vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance, which lowers blood pressure.

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It selectively blocks the AT₁ receptor, preventing the vasoconstricting effects of angiotensin II and promoting relaxation of blood vessels.

The 80 mg/10 mg strength is an established fixed-dose combination of these two agents and represents the maximum recommended daily strength in the referenced prescribing information.

Indication

CHARTOREG CO 10/80 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.

The combination may be used when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either telmisartan or amlodipine alone, or when combination therapy is clinically appropriate. Fixed-dose combinations can also simplify treatment by providing two antihypertensive agents in a single tablet.

Effective treatment of hypertension helps reduce the risk of complications associated with persistently elevated blood pressure, including stroke, heart disease and kidney disease.

How It Works

Amlodipine 10 mg

  • Blocks L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle.
  • Relaxes arterial blood vessels.
  • Decreases peripheral vascular resistance.
  • Helps reduce blood pressure.

Telmisartan 80 mg

  • Selectively blocks angiotensin II AT₁ receptors.
  • Reduces angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction.
  • Promotes vasodilation.
  • Helps lower systemic blood pressure.

Using both mechanisms provides complementary blood-pressure reduction.

Dosage & Administration

  • The usual administration of telmisartan/amlodipine combinations is once daily.
  • CHARTOREG CO 10/80 mg should be taken exactly as prescribed by the treating physician.
  • The 80 mg/10 mg strength is the maximum recommended dose in the referenced prescribing information.
  • It may be taken with or without food.
  • Take the tablet at approximately the same time each day.
  • Do not increase, decrease, or discontinue the dose without medical advice.
  • Blood-pressure response should be monitored regularly.

Important Precautions

Inform your physician before using CHARTOREG CO if you have:

  • Kidney disease or impaired kidney function
  • Liver disease
  • Low blood pressure or dehydration
  • A history of angioedema or serious allergic reactions
  • Significant cardiovascular disease
  • Electrolyte abnormalities

Telmisartan may cause hyperkalemia and changes in kidney function in susceptible patients. Kidney function and serum electrolytes may need to be monitored according to the patient's clinical circumstances.

Patients should consult their healthcare professional before using potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes.

Concurrent use of telmisartan with aliskiren is contraindicated in patients with diabetes, and combinations affecting the renin-angiotensin system require careful medical supervision.

Possible Side Effects

Possible adverse effects may include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Peripheral edema (swelling of the ankles or feet)
  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Palpitations
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in kidney function
  • Increased blood potassium levels

Peripheral edema is a recognized dose-related adverse effect of amlodipine.

Seek urgent medical attention if severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, fainting, or other symptoms of a serious reaction occur.

Pregnancy Warning

CHARTOREG CO should not be used during pregnancy.

Telmisartan acts on the renin-angiotensin system and may cause serious fetal injury or death, particularly when used during the later stages of pregnancy. Patients who become pregnant while taking telmisartan should contact their healthcare professional immediately.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. Do not take two tablets at the same time to compensate for a missed dose.

Lifestyle Measures

Medication should be combined, when appropriate, with lifestyle measures that support blood-pressure control, including:

  • Reducing salt/sodium intake
  • Maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Regular physical activity
  • Eating a balanced diet
  • Avoiding tobacco
  • Limiting alcohol consumption

WHO recommends lifestyle modification alongside appropriate pharmacological treatment for hypertension.

Storage

Keep CHARTOREG CO in its original packaging, protected from moisture and light. Telmisartan/amlodipine bilayer tablets should remain in their packaging until administration where applicable. Follow the storage instructions printed on the product package.

Patient Disclaimer

This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not replace the advice of a qualified physician or pharmacist. CHARTOREG CO 10/80 mg should be used only as prescribed. Do not start, stop, or change the dose without consulting your healthcare professional. Patients with kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, or those taking other medicines that affect blood pressure, potassium levels, or kidney function should consult their healthcare professional before use. Regular blood-pressure monitoring and, when clinically indicated, monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes may be required.
