Nebivolol is a highly selective B1-adrenergic receptor blocker used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and chronic heart failure. By relaxing blood vessels and slowing the heart rate, it lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow, often with fewer side effects than traditional beta-blockers.

Key Aspects of Nebivolol:

Uses: Primarily treats high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure. It is sometimes used off-label for physical symptoms of anxiety.
Mechanism: It works by blocking B1-receptors and inducing vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) through nitric oxide, distinct from other beta-blockers.
Common Side Effects: Headache, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and, less commonly, insomnia or reduced heart rate.
Warnings: It should not be used in severe liver damage or severe heart failure (decompensated). It may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Dosage: Typically 5mg daily for hypertension, but lower starting doses (2.5mg) are recommended for elderly patients or those with renal impairment.

Drug Interactions: Consult a doctor regarding interactions with other blood pressure medicines (calcium channel blockers, digoxin), antidepressants (fluoxetine, paroxetine), and CYP2D6 inhibitors.
