Common Uses
Cefepime is typically reserved for moderate-to-severe infections, including: 

• Pneumonia: Both community-acquired and hospital-acquired (nosocomial).
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Including complicated cases and kidney infections (pyelonephritis).
• Skin Infections: Uncomplicated infections of the skin and skin structures.
• Intra-abdominal Infections: Often used in combination with metronidazole.
• Febrile Neutropenia: Used as an initial "empiric" treatment for patients with fever and very low white blood cell counts. 

Key Characteristics

• Mechanism: It kills bacteria by disrupting the synthesis of their cell walls.
• Administration: It is not available as a pill; it must be given by injection either into a vein (IV) or a muscle (IM).
• Special Coverage: Unlike many other antibiotics, it is effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common cause of hospital-acquired infections. However, it does not treat MRSA.
