Medical Description

Entecavir is an antiviral medication used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It works by reducing the ability of the hepatitis B virus to multiply, helping lower the viral load and reducing further liver damage. Although entecavir does not cure hepatitis B, it may help decrease the risk of complications such as liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer when used consistently as prescribed.

Entecavir is commonly prescribed for adults and children aged 2 years and older with active chronic HBV infection and may be used in patients with compensated or decompensated liver disease. It is usually taken once daily on an empty stomach.
