Dosage form: Oral syrup

Active ingredient:

• Ambroxol hydrochloride: 15 mg/5 mL

Pharmacologic class: Mucolytic and expectorant agent.

Description:
MUCO syrup contains Ambroxol hydrochloride, a mucolytic medicine used to reduce the viscosity of respiratory mucus and facilitate mucus clearance from the airways. It improves mucus transport and helps convert thick, tenacious secretions into a form that can be more effectively expelled through coughing. Ambroxol is commonly used in respiratory conditions associated with excessive or thick mucus production.

Therapeutic uses:

• Productive cough with thick mucus
• Acute bronchitis
• Chronic bronchitis
• Respiratory tract disorders with difficult-to-expectorate secretions
• Conditions associated with excessive mucus production and impaired mucus clearance

Mechanism of action:

• Mucolytic action: Reduces mucus viscosity and helps liquefy bronchial secretions.
• Secretomotor effect: Enhances movement of respiratory cilia, improving mucus transport.
• Surfactant stimulation: Increases pulmonary surfactant production, reducing mucus adherence to airway walls and facilitating expectoration.

Possible adverse effects:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal discomfort
• Diarrhea
• Dry mouth
• Altered taste sensation
• Headache
• Skin rash or hypersensitivity reactions

Important precautions and warnings:

• Avoid use in patients with known hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or formulation components.
• Rare but serious skin reactions such as Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) have been reported. Immediate medical attention is required if skin rash, blistering, or mucosal lesions occur.
• Use cautiously in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding use should occur only after healthcare professional evaluation.
