PROSTRIDE 5 MG ( FINASTERIDE ) 30 CAPSULES

Class: 5-alpha reductase inhibitor

Indications:

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia)

Mechanism of Action:

  • Inhibits 5-alpha reductase → reduces conversion of testosterone to DHT → decreases prostate size & slows hair loss

Dosage:

  • BPH: 5 mg once daily
  • Hair loss: 1 mg once daily
  • Take with or without food; swallow whole

Onset of Effect:

  • Hair loss: ≥ 3 months
  • BPH: up to 6 months
  • Effects persist only while taking the drug

Major Warnings:

  • Contraindicated in women & children
  • Pregnant women must NOT handle crushed/broken tablets (risk of male fetal abnormalities)
  • May increase risk of high-grade prostate cancer
  • Affects PSA levels (important for prostate cancer screening)
  • Use caution in liver disease
  • Possible male infertility

Common Side Effects:

  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Reduced semen volume

Serious Side Effects (seek medical help):

  • Breast changes (lumps, pain, discharge)
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling)
  • Severe dizziness or fainting

Drug Interactions:

  • St. John’s Wort (may alter effectiveness)
