RAWGIT 40 MG (ESOMEPRAZOLE) – HARD GELATIN CAPSULES
Active Ingredient: Esomeprazole 40 mg
Pharmaceutical Form: Hard gelatin capsules containing enteric-coated pellets
Pack Size: 14 capsules
Therapeutic Class: Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) – Gastric Acid Secretion Inhibitor.
Product Overview
Rawgit 40 mg contains esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce gastric acid production. It is commonly prescribed for acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and peptic ulcer disease.
Esomeprazole works by selectively inhibiting the gastric proton pump (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) in the stomach's parietal cells, thereby reducing the amount of acid secreted into the stomach.
The enteric-coated pellets protect the active ingredient from degradation by stomach acid, allowing esomeprazole to be released and absorbed in the intestine.
Indications and Uses
Rawgit 40 mg may be prescribed for:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Helps relieve acid reflux symptoms, including heartburn and acid regurgitation.
- Erosive Esophagitis: Promotes healing of inflammation and damage to the esophageal lining caused by stomach acid.
- Maintenance of Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: Helps prevent recurrence of acid-related esophageal damage.
- Peptic Ulcer Disease: Used as part of appropriate treatment regimens for gastric and duodenal ulcers.
- Helicobacter pylori Eradication: Used in combination with appropriate antibiotics to eliminate H. pylori infection and reduce the risk of associated peptic ulcers.
- NSAID-Associated Ulcers: Helps reduce the risk of gastric ulcers in selected patients taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Zollinger–Ellison Syndrome: Helps control excessive gastric acid secretion associated with this condition.
Important: The appropriate strength and treatment duration depend on the specific indication and the patient's clinical condition.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole selectively inhibits the gastric proton pump (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase), which is responsible for the final step of gastric acid secretion in stomach parietal cells.
Its actions include:
- Reducing basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion.
- Increasing gastric pH (reducing stomach acidity).
- Promoting healing of acid-related damage to the esophageal and gastric lining.
- Helping relieve heartburn and acid reflux symptoms.
- Supporting ulcer healing when used as part of an appropriate treatment regimen.
Dosage and Administration
Route of Administration: Oral.
The appropriate dose and treatment duration depend on the indication and the patient's clinical condition.
Common adult dosing regimens include:
- GERD with erosive esophagitis: 20–40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks.
- Symptomatic GERD: Usually 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, with further treatment if clinically indicated.
- Maintenance of erosive esophagitis healing: Usually 20 mg once daily.
- NSAID-associated gastric ulcer prevention: 20–40 mg once daily in selected patients.
- H. pylori eradication: Used with appropriate antibiotics according to the prescribed combination regimen.
- Zollinger–Ellison syndrome: Usually 40 mg twice daily initially, with dosage adjusted according to clinical response.
Administration Instructions:
- Take preferably at least one hour before meals.
- Swallow the capsule whole with water.
- Do not crush or chew the enteric-coated pellets.
- If swallowing is difficult, the capsule may be opened and its intact pellets mixed with applesauce, provided this method is permitted by the product leaflet.
- Take the medication regularly as prescribed.
Important: Rawgit 40 mg is not the appropriate dose for every acid-related condition. The 40 mg strength should be used according to the physician's prescription and the specific indication.
